Job description

Leasing Paralegal | Leading National Organisation

About the Client:

Our client is a highly successful, household-name organisation with an extensive presence across Australia and New Zealand. With a portfolio of well-established consumer brands and a substantial national property footprint, the business continues to invest in its operations, people and long-term growth.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Leasing Paralegal to join its dedicated Property Legal team. Offering genuine autonomy, exposure to a diverse commercial property portfolio and the opportunity to work closely with senior legal professionals, this is an attractive move for someone looking to take greater ownership of their work within a dynamic commercial environment.

About the Role:

Working closely with the Head of Property Legal and Property Legal Counsel, you will play an integral role in managing a broad range of retail and commercial leasing matters across Australia and New Zealand.

This is a genuinely hands-on position that extends well beyond traditional lease administration. You will be trusted to manage leasing transactions from commencement through to completion, exercise commercial judgement and contribute to practical, solutions-focused outcomes for the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a high volume of retail and commercial leasing matters, including leases, heads of agreement, renewals, variations, licences and surrenders.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating leasing documentation, with the autonomy to progress matters within agreed parameters.
  • Working directly with landlords, managing agents, external solicitors and internal property stakeholders to facilitate transactions.
  • Identifying contractual risks, interpreting lease provisions and recommending commercially appropriate solutions.
  • Managing execution, stamping, registration and PEXA requirements.
  • Maintaining and improving leasing precedents, templates and internal processes.
  • Supporting the broader Property Legal team on strategic property matters and business initiatives.

Importantly, you will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise and influence how leasing matters are managed across a substantial national portfolio.

About You:

You will be an accomplished Leasing Paralegal with approximately seven or more years' experience and a strong technical understanding of retail and commercial leasing.

Ideally, your background will have been developed within a reputable law firm or an established in-house legal team, where you have gained meaningful exposure to drafting, reviewing and negotiating leasing documentation.

You will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of retail leasing legislation and commercial property transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing leasing matters independently and handling competing priorities.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Confidence engaging with landlords, lawyers and senior commercial stakeholders.
  • Experience with PEXA, lease registration and associated transaction processes.
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach, coupled with excellent attention to detail.

Above all, you will be someone who enjoys taking ownership, building strong relationships and delivering practical outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an excellent opportunity to move into, or further develop your career within, an established in-house legal function supporting a prominent national organisation.

Unlike many traditional paralegal positions, this role offers genuine responsibility for leasing transactions, direct engagement with commercial stakeholders and the opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a broader business context.

You will work alongside experienced senior legal professionals, gain exposure to a substantial and varied property portfolio and contribute to a business where the legal team plays an important role in supporting commercial operations.

For an experienced Leasing Paralegal seeking greater autonomy, meaningful commercial involvement and a long-term in-house career opportunity, this position offers a particularly compelling next step.
