Job summary

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School is seeking experienced Learning Assistants for the Junior School Boys campus (Prep-6) to support classrooms and groups, helping students participate confidently in learning. Two part-time fixed-term roles exist for the 2027 school year, with hours 8.00 am–4.06 pm and days to be discussed.

Role focuses on assisting teachers, preparing activities, and supporting wellbeing and inclusive education across the school community, with potential for extension.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children in educational or similar settings.
• Willingness to provide safeguarding and support to diverse learners.
• Relevant qualification (Certificate III or higher) and strong communication skills.

The Role

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School is seeking experienced, enthusiastic and caring Learning Assistants to join our Junior School Boys campus (Prep to Year 6). Working closely with classroom teachers, Learning Assistants provide practical learning and classroom support to individuals and groups of students, helping students to participate confidently and successfully in their learning.

We have two part-time, fixed-term positions available for the 2027 school year. with potential for extension:

• 0.8 (4 days per week), Terms One and Two: 25 January to 25 June 2027
• 0.6 (3 days per week), Term One, 25 January to 25 March 2027

Hours of work are 8.00 am to 4.06 pm, with workdays to be discussed.

Responsibilities

Working under the guidance and supervision of classroom teachers, Learning Assistants provide support across a range of classroom and school activities. Responsibilities may include:

• Supporting individual students and small groups across a broad range of learning activities.
• Assisting teachers to prepare and organise classroom activities, resources, materials and equipment.
• Supporting students with additional learning, physical or health needs to participate in classroom and School programmes.
• Monitoring student wellbeing and communicating any concerns to the appropriate staff member.
• Assisting teachers to maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Undertaking student supervision outside the classroom, including during playground duty, excursions, sporting activities and other School activities, as required.
• Supporting a range of School events, programmes and activities.

The successful applicants will have relevant experience supporting children in an educational or similar setting and hold a relevant qualification, such as a Certificate III or higher, together with strong interpersonal and communication skills. They will be caring, patient and collaborative, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and work effectively as part of a team.
