Job summary

RCR Mining Technologies is seeking a Leading Hand Fitter / Machinist to join the Welshpool Workshop. This hands-on leadership role involves guiding machinists and apprentices and delivering high-quality machining work in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Machining Supervisor, you will allocate work, coordinate labour and resources, and ensure tasks meet tight tolerances and deadlines while maintaining equipment and promoting continuous improvement across the workshop.

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC Lathe or CNC Mill using G codes, M codes.
• Can operate FANUC control machine.
• Manual Centre Lathes and Manual Milling Machines proficiency.
• Experience with Horizontal Borers is preferred.
• Experience with preventative maintenance on machining equipment.
• Strong commitment to safe work practices and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Allocate labour, materials and equipment to meet delivery, quality and commercial requirements
• Mentor and monitor apprentices to support learning outcomes
• Ensure compliance with RCR Health, Safety and Environmental policies
• Lead daily pre-start meetings and communicate work allocations
• Prepare job cards, materials and resources ahead of scheduled work
• Monitor machining methods and drive best-practice manufacturing processes
• Verify material checks, dimensional inspection records and quality documentation
• Maintain accurate job identification on all parts and materials
• Track job progress and escape issues impacting delivery dates
• Ensure adherence to employee start/finish times and report non-conformance
• Maintain the work centre schedule with up-to-date progress information
• Provide coverage during supervisor absences and liaise with management
• Promote and contribute to business development opportunities
• Drive continuous improvement and eliminate inefficiencies
• Ensure machine shop equipment is maintained and coordinate repairs where required
• Assist other divisions and business units to support broader objectives
• Perform additional duties as directed, within skills and competency levels

This hands-on leadership roleis ideal for a skilled tradesperson who enjoysguiding others, improving processes, and deliveringhigh-quality machining work in a fast-pacedmanufacturing environment.

Reporting to the Machining Supervisor, you willoversee daily workshop activities, supportmachinists and apprentices, and ensure allmachining operations on borers, lathes, drills andmills are completed safely, accurately andefficiently.

About the Role

As the Leading Hand Fitter / Machinist, you willallocate work, coordinate labour and resources, andprovide technical guidance to your team. You willensure all machining tasks are completed to thehighest quality, meeting tight tolerances andproduction deadlines. This role also plays a keypart in maintaining equipment, supportingapprentice development, and promoting continuousimprovement across the workshop.

Qualifications

• Australian recognised TradeQualification - Machining
• Australian Driver's Licence
• High Risk Work Licence - Forklift &Dogging or Basic Rigging

Essential Criteria

Experience operating one or more of thefollowing:

• Experience on programming CNC Lathe orCNC Mill using G codes, M codes
• Can operate FANUC control machine
• Manual Centre Lathes
• Manual Milling Machines
• Horizontal Borers

• Experience with preventative maintenanceon machining equipment
• Strong commitment to safe work practicesand teamwork

Desirable Criteria

• Previous experience in a Leading Hand orleadership role
• Understand GD&T, used Mastercamsoftware
• Senior CNC Machinist lathe/millexperience is a bonus
• Experience manufacturing miningequipment
• Experience machining hydraulic cylindercomponents
• Basic computer literacy
