Job summary

Foundation Homes QLD on the Sunshine Coast is seeking a qualified Leading Hand Carpenter for a full-time on-site role. You’ll work daily with carpenters and apprentices, setting standards and directing the crew to build our high-end homes.

Ideal candidates have Cert III, at least 5 years post-trade residential experience, and a calm, team-focused approach. You’ll travel to projects as needed; accommodation and meals are provided when away.

Responsibilities

Leading Hand Carpenter – Full Time – Sunshine Coast

Who we are

Foundation Homes QLD is a small, family-run builder on the Sunshine Coast. We build high-end custom homes for clients who expect the job done properly and we've built our reputation on exactly that. We're not a big company and we don't want to be. We're a tight team of good, honest people who turn up, work hard, take pride in what they build and look out for each other.

We'll be upfront about what we're like to work for. We don't ask for a lot: be reliable, do quality work and treat the people around you with respect. The role

We're looking for a qualified carpenter to step into a Leading Hand role, full time, with an immediate start. This is a hands-on role. You'll be on the tools every day building our homes alongside our carpenters and apprentices, and you'll be the one they look to on site for direction, standards and how things get done properly.

Most of our work is on the Sunshine Coast, but we also have a project around three hours north, so some travel and time away from home is part of the job. When you're travelling for us, accommodation and meals are covered.

We're not a timber-only crew. We do the lot on our sites - earthworks, formwork and concrete, pool construction, scaffolding, right through to fix-out. No two days are the same, and if you want to broaden your skills beyond carpentry and learn what it takes to run a whole build, there's plenty of opportunity here.

Day to day you'll be:

• On the tools building architecturally designed homes from plans, working with our Construction Supervisor and Builder
• Running the carpentry crew on site - allocating work, keeping things moving and making sure what leaves our hands is right
• Mentoring and training our apprentices (we take this seriously - they're the future of the business)
• Keeping the site safe, tidy and organised, including running toolbox talks
• Checking work against plans, specs and code before it's covered up
• Coordinating with other trades and flagging problems early rather than building over them
• Keeping on top of materials and letting the Supervisor know what's needed
• Setting the example - in your workmanship, your safety and how you treat people

Who we're looking for

Qualified carpenter (Cert III) with at least 5 years' post-trade experience in residential construction - ideally high-end or architectural work

Solid across the lot: from bare ground and footings through framing, roofing, flooring, decks, fix-out and finishing. You'll be working on homes where the detail matters and carrying out tasks for all parts of the build, not just carpentry

Confident reading architectural plans and specifications

Experience leading or supervising a small crew, or you're a senior carpenter who's ready to step up and has the temperament for it

Good with people - calm, clear and able to bring apprentices along rather than bark at them

Your own tools and equipment. With the number of projects we're running, we don't supply tools - we expect a Leading Hand to turn up with a full, well-maintained kit

QLD White Card, current driver's licence and your own reliable transport. There is no vehicle with this role, so please only apply if that works for you

Able and willing to occasionally travel for work when a project needs it (see above - we look after you when you're away)

First Aid certificate is a bonus
