Job summary

Urban Utilities is seeking a strategic Leader System Modelling to advance its process and hydraulic modelling capability in South East Queensland. You will own governance, data pipelines and modelling outputs, guiding a specialist team and collaborating with planners to inform investment decisions.

You will lead model automation, calibration validation, and explore digital twin applications, ensuring outputs are fit-for-purpose and add real business value.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Process, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing specialist modelling teams, including model governance, quality assurance, and technical review.
• Extensive expertise in Process and Hydraulic network modelling using tools like BioWin, Sumo, GoldSim, InfoWorks ICM/WS, Bentley SewerGEMS/WaterGEMS, DHI MIKE, or equivalent platforms.
• Demonstrated experience in performance analysis for water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Strong understanding of water supply, sewerage, and recycled water network design, operation, and planning.
• Sound knowledge of regulatory frameworks, environmental discharge requirements, and industry modelling standards.
• RPEQ, CPENG or the ability to obtain.
• Experience directing model automation and calibration validation capability (e.g. Python-based scenario analysis) and governing spatial data pipelines for modelling datasets.
• Understanding of model productisation, digital twin concepts, and operational/real-time modelling applications.
• Sound knowledge of asset management principles and infrastructure investment planning processes.

Reporting to the Manager - Asset and System Knowledge, the Leader System Modelling is accountable for the development, governance, and strategic application of Urban Utilities' system simulation and scenario analysis capability.

This role defines and enables how the business predicts, tests, and optimises network and treatment system performance before committing investment. It owns the models, calibration standards, model data pipelines, and visualisation platforms that ensure modelling outputs are fit-for-purpose, trusted, and accessible to planners and decision-makers.

You'll inherit an established specialist modelling team and a clear mandate: to build the governance framework for the capability and shape its evolution toward operational, real-time, and digital twin applications as part of Urban Utilities' broader digital direction.

About you:

You're a strategic and collaborative leader with deep expertise in process and hydraulic modelling and a passion for using data to solve complex infrastructure challenges. You thrive on building high-performing teams, driving technical excellence and embedding best practice governance to ensure modelling capabilities deliver real business value. You will also have:
