Job summary

Kapsch is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to drive two tunnel ITS projects in Australia. You will lead system engineering activities across the project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, integration, testing, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

You will play a key role in delivering reliable tunnel control and traffic management solutions that support safe and efficient transport infrastructure. Strong English and travel willingness are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in system engineering and project management in a project delivery organization.
• Experience delivering Intelligent Transportation Systems or Advanced Traffic Management Systems.
• ITS/ATMS experience should include tunnel SCADA, tunnel control, CCTV, incident management and data reporting.
• Advanced level of English language. Applicants should be able to travel internationally as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel ITS projects in Australia as Lead Systems Engineer.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed, multicultural team to deliver on time, scope and budget.
• Coordinate project execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for the customer and ensure the solution meets contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager and cross‑functional stakeholders on planning, risk management, issue resolution and governance.
• Lead systems engineering activities: requirements analysis, solution definition, systems integration, verification, validation and risk management.
• Support customer engagement activities: technical workshops, presentations and discussions on delivery and change management.
• Provide commercial support in preparing proposals, estimates, and technical documentation for Change Requests.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the delivery of two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for systems engineering activities across the project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system integration, testing, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in delivering reliable, high-performance tunnel control and traffic management solutions that support the safe and efficient operation of critical transport infrastructure.

How you’ll make an impact

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel projects in Australia, acting as the Lead Systems Engineer and ensuring successful end-to-end execution.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed, multicultural team, ensuring project delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Coordinate project execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers, and other key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the customer, taking ownership of the proposed solution and ensuring it meets contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and cross-functional stakeholders in planning, risk management, issue resolution, and project governance activities.
• Lead systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, solution definition, systems integration, verification, validation, and technical risk management.
• Support customer engagement activities, including technical workshops, presentations, and discussions related to project delivery and change management.
• Provide commercial support in the preparation of proposals, estimates, and technical documentation for Change Requests and project enhancements.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in system engineering/project management in a project delivery organization across both systems and software delivery.
• Experience in the delivery of Intelligent Transportation Systems, or Advanced Traffic Management Systems.
• Relevant ITS/ATMS experience should include tunnel SCADA, tunnel control systems, traffic detection and monitoring, CCTV, incident detection, incident response, decision support, traffic data processing and reporting.
• Advanced level of English language.
• Applicants should be available for travel based on project requirements, including international travel, as such a passport is required.
