Job summary

Kapsch is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to drive two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. You will oversee systems engineering across the lifecycle, from requirements to testing, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

You will provide technical leadership to a diverse team, coordinate with internal and external partners, and own the proposed solution to meet contractual and operational needs. English fluency and willingness to travel are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in system engineering and project management in a project delivery org.
• Experience delivering ITS/ATMS, including tunnel SCADA, CCTV, incident detection and response.
• Advanced English proficiency.
• Willing to travel internationally as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel ITS projects in Australia as the Lead Systems Engineer.
• Provide technical leadership to a distributed, multicultural team to meet time, scope and budget.
• Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle.
• Serve as primary technical touchpoint with the customer to ensure contractual and operational requirements are met.
• Collaborate with Project Manager and cross-functional stakeholders on planning, risk management, and governance.
• Lead systems engineering activities: requirements analysis, integration, verification, validation, risk management.
• Support customer engagements with technical workshops, presentations and change discussions.
• Provide commercial support for proposals, estimates, and Change Requests.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the delivery of two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for systems engineering activities across the project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system integration, testing, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in delivering reliable, high-performance tunnel control and traffic management solutions that support the safe and efficient operation of critical transport infrastructure.

What You'll Make An Impact

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel projects in Australia, acting as the Lead Systems Engineer and ensuring successful end-to-end execution.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed, multicultural team, ensuring project delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Coordinate project execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers, and other key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the customer, taking ownership of the proposed solution and ensuring it meets contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and cross-functional stakeholders in planning, risk management, issue resolution, and project governance activities.
• Lead systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, solution definition, systems integration, verification, validation, and technical risk management.
• Support customer engagement activities, including technical workshops, presentations, and discussions related to project delivery and change management.
• Provide commercial support in the preparation of proposals, estimates, and technical documentation for Change Requests and project enhancements.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in system engineering/project management in a project delivery organization across both systems and software delivery.
• Experience in the delivery of Intelligent Transportation Systems, or Advanced Traffic Management Systems.
• Relevant ITS/ATMS experience should include tunnel SCADA, tunnel control systems, traffic detection and monitoring, CCTV, incident detection, incident response, decision support, traffic data processing and reporting.
• Advanced level of English language.
• Applicants should be available for travel based on project requirements, including international travel, as such a passport is required.
