Job summary

Mary Mae's Bar & Kitchen at Brisbane Powerhouse is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team. This busy, seven-day operation delivers restaurant trade, functions and major Brisbane events.

You will work with the Head Chef to lead the kitchen, oversee service, maintain high food quality and ensure safety standards while supporting cost controls and team development. If you thrive in a fast-paced, team-led environment and take pride in consistent, excellent food, we'd love to hear

Qualifications

• Experience leading a busy kitchen team.
• Confident running service under pressure.
• Hands-on and able to work alongside the team.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Understanding of food safety and kitchen procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support Head Chef with day-to-day kitchen operations.
• Lead kitchen during busy services and ensure smooth service.
• Work across restaurant, functions and large-scale events.
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation and consistency.
• Ensure food safety, hygiene and kitchen standards are maintained.
• Assist with ordering, stock control and kitchen organisation.
• Help manage preparation, section organisation and service readiness.
• Train and develop junior kitchen staff.
• Collaborate with FOH for effective communication.
