Job summary

Mantel, an Australian-owned technology consulting business, is seeking a Lead Front-End Engineer to work across multiple tech stacks and platforms, with opportunities to upskill and cross skill.

You will lead a collaborative team, implement CI/CD, advise on AI-assisted development tools, and mentor engineers while delivering high-quality, scalable front-end solutions for major Australian brands.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with Jest and Cypress for front-end testing.

About the role:

As a Lead Software Engineer (Front-End) at Mantel, you will enjoy working on a diverse and exciting range of projects. We are a technology agnostic business which opens endless possibilities for you to work across multiple tech stacks and multiple platforms with the opportunity to upskill and cross skill.

Your day to day:

• Thrive in our collaborative, flat-structured environment, where your day-to-day work is all about teamwork and shared decision-making
• Work on greenfield projects for Australia's biggest household names and develop high-quality code that can function with existing code, patterns and architectural techniques
• Implement technology solutions that meet and exceed customer requirements and expectations utilising development best practices such as CI/CD and test integrations
• Lead the team in agile development practices as well as knowledge sharing sessions with other team members
• Ensure appropriate quality is maintained through practices such as unit testing
• Design systems that can be managed effectively in production environments
• Champion the adoption and evolution of AI-assisted development tools across teams and projects
• Design and implement team-wide agentic coding workflows (setup-plan-act) that integrate with existing development practices
• Establish team standards for shared context management, prompt libraries and reusable agentic patterns
• Mentor engineers at all levels on effective AI-human collaboration in software development
• Help our clients maintain and run reliable applications and systems
• Use professional judgement while treating colleagues and clients with respect and compassion, and a demonstrated ability to display our five Mantel principles

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Strong experience using testing frameworks such as Jest and Cypress and integrating these with CI/CD
• Strong technical and team leadership having both led the technical direction on projects and also software engineering teams
• Experience in developing applications on both 'greenfield' projects & existing applications.
• Experience with agentic coding tools and ability to lead team adoption
• Experience architecting development workflows that integrate AI assistance with human expertise
• Understanding of AI code generation security and quality assurance frameworks
• Proven experience establishing team ways of working with agentic tools, including:
• Shared context repositories and knowledge management
• Prompt engineering standards and libraries
• Knowledge of common productivity tools such as Gulp/Webpack & GIT source control.
• Experience with functional programming and CI/CD.
• A good understanding of modern development frameworks, industry trends and best practice.
