Job summary

Titan Recruitment Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Lead SMP Designer to support a Design manager and drive the delivery of brownfields and sustaining capital projects in the minerals sector. This leadership-focused role coordinates people, scope, schedules and design intent to ensure work is delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

Qualifications

• 7+ years' experience in SMP / Mechanical design.
• Experience leading or coordinating small teams.
• Strong mechanical design foundation with piping and structural knowledge.
• Piping experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Experience across materials handling and mineral processing projects.
• Experience with Bentley OpenPlant/OpenBuildings or Autodesk Plant 3D.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the production of SMP modelling and drafting deliverables.
• Manage and support a team of designers/drafters, delegating work effectively.
• Ensure design intent, scope, and interfaces are clearly understood and delivered.
• Drive project progress, monitor schedules, and correct misalignment or blind spots.
• Act as the key design interface with engineering, clarifying requirements and resolving gaps.
• Support layout development, optioneering, and system-level design decisions.
• Forecast workload and resource requirements in collaboration with the Design Manager.
• Review work in progress and completed deliverables to maintain quality and consistency.
• Remove barriers for the team when required.

Role Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Lead SMP Designer to support a Design manager and help drive the delivery of brownfields and sustaining capital projects across the minerals sector. It is a leadership-focused position for someone who can coordinate people, scope, schedules, and design intent, ensuring work is delivered efficiently and to a high standard. The successful candidate will act as the design integrator and team lead, sitting between engineering and design, and ensuring the right work is done by the right people at the right time. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to step into genuine leadership, grow with a business, and help shape how projects are delivered.

Essential Skills & Experience
