Job summary

AECOM in Australia seeks a Principal Primary Engineer to lead high‑voltage primary and substation design, providing technical mentoring across an established team. You will drive projects from initiation to completion, applying TransGrid/Powerlink standards for 330 kV–500 kV work.

You will guide multidisciplinary teams, ensure safety and compliance, and influence technical standards while delivering high-quality infrastructure across complex programs.

Qualifications

• Experience leading design and delivery of primary and substation projects.
• Ability to apply TransGrid and Powerlink standards in design work.
• Knowledge of high-voltage equipment and AS/NZS standards.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and review of primary system designs including layouts and equipment selection.
• Act as SME for substation primary engineering within project teams.
• Ensure technical verification within AECOM standards and processes.
• Coordinate with protection, control, civil, and secondary engineers.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Interface with clients and regulatory bodies to align on requirements.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables and design reports.
• Support tendering, project planning, and cost estimation activities.
