Cochrane’s Transport, based in Gillman, SA, is seeking a highly capable Leading Hand Mechanic to join the workshop team. The role blends hands-on mechanical work with day-to-day leadership and coordination of workshop activities.

You’ll report to the Service Manager and help maintain heavy commercial vehicles, trucks and trailers across the fleet. Working Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with an on-call roster once per month and a generous on-call allowance.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology and HR licence or higher.
• Experience leading, mentoring or coordinating workshop personnel.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Experience using advanced diagnostic equipment and CMMS.

Responsabilités

• Coordinate and oversee daily workshop activities, allocating work and meeting maintenance schedules.
• Lead, mentor and support workshop mechanics in a safety-focused environment.
• Carry out servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs on heavy vehicles and trailers.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, diesel and electrical issues.
• Maintain workshop records and liaise with management on priorities and availability.
