Scott Electrical Services is seeking a Principal Fiber Optic Gyroscope Engineer to join our advanced engineering team in Sydney. You will lead the design, development and manufacturing scale-up of FOG-based navigation systems, integrating photonics, optics and precision electro‑mechanical principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Optics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in Fiber Optic Gyroscopes.
• Strong understanding of FOG physics, including the Sagnac effect.
• In‑depth knowledge of photonics components (light sources, fibers, couplers, modulators, detectors).
• Background in electro‑optical systems design and integration.
• Experience with manufacturing processes for optical or precision electro‑mechanical systems, esp. large-scale production.
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; teamwork.
• PhD in a relevant field.
• Understanding of inertial navigation algorithms (high-level).
• Experience with simulation/modeling tools for optical/inertial systems.
• Experience in defence/aerospace/autonomous systems.
• RCA tools & 8D problem solving training.

Responsabilités

• Lead the design and development of FOG and related systems for performance, reliability and manufacturability.
• Develop and refine manufacturing processes for FOGs with a focus on large production volumes.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, and production teams to ensure seamless product development.
• Analyse test data, troubleshoot issues, and improve FOG performance and reliability.
• Stay updated on FOG, photonics and manufacturing tech advancements.
• Ensure FOG meets customer expectations in demanding applications.
• Develop testing processes for fibre optic coils.
• Develop capability for coil stress conditioning and related processes.
• Support Production Engineering with metrics and SPC measures.
• Guide tooling design for fibre optic coil processes.
