Job summary

Australian Department of Health Disability & Ageing – Woden ACT is offering a role with OGTR to manage a small team of evaluators assessing GMO-related applications, including containment and clinical/plant trials.

The position emphasizes leadership, scientific support, and liaison with scientific committees, government agencies, and research institutions while contributing to the regulatory system’s ongoing operation.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular biology or related life sciences is highly desirable.
• Candidates should have substantial scientific research experience or trial experience.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific support on GMOs and gene technology applications.
• Lead and mentor a small team of evaluators.
• Guide assessment of activities involving GMOs in containment and trials.
• Prepare minutes, reports, guidelines, and technical correspondence.
• Undertake research related to gene technology regulation.
