Peoplebank is seeking a seasoned Principal Developer / Lead Backend API Developer to steer the design and evolution of a consumer API platform that powers web applications, portals and mobile apps within a governed environment.

You will provide hands-on technical leadership, set engineering standards and collaborate with frontend, platform engineering, integration and enterprise teams to deliver secure, scalable digital services.

Qualifications

• Experience leading the design and delivery of enterprise-scale backend services and API platforms.
• Proficiency in Go (Golang) and GraphQL; strong API architecture and authN/authZ patterns.
• Cloud-native delivery with Kubernetes and AWS (incl. EKS).
• Experience establishing engineering standards, code reviews, testing and governance.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering tools while maintaining governance.
• Production support and debugging of complex systems.
• Integration experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce and MuleSoft.

About the Role:

We’re seeking an experienced Principal Developer / Lead Backend API Developer to lead the design, development and ongoing evolution of a consumer API platform that supports web applications, portals and mobile apps in a highly governed environment.
You’ll provide hands‑on technical leadership, set engineering standards, and work closely with cross‑functional teams (frontend, platform engineering, integration and enterprise platforms) to deliver secure, scalable and reliable digital services.
A major focus is the development of a new middleware platform that will sit between the backend systems, MuleSoft services, and customer-facing portals. The successful candidate will help establish the backend team and technical practices supporting this platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the establishment of the new middleware/backend development team.

• Provide technical leadership and set engineering standards and practices.

• Mentor and guide a small team of developers.

• Lead troubleshooting, debugging, and production issue resolution.

• Drive high-quality software engineering outcomes.

• Support both portal and mobile application teams through shared middleware services.

Technical Skills Required :

• Leading design/delivery of enterprise-scale backend services, API platforms and integrations.

• Strong expertise in Golang, GraphQL, API architecture, authN/authZ patterns, and service-to-service communication.

• Cloud-native delivery/operations experience with Kubernetes and AWS (incl. EKS).

• Establishing engineering standards, code reviews, automated testing and delivery governance.

• Practical experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools while maintaining strong oversight/accountability.

• Production support and debugging of complex systems

• Integration experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce and MuleSoft (or equivalent).
