Job summary

Levande is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to help extend and optimise the Azure-based Levande Data Platform (LDP). You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, building ingestion, storage and transformation layers to support reporting, analytics and AI.

Reporting to the Head of Data Platform, you’ll develop production pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes, while improving reliability, performance and data quality.

Qualifications

• Extensive data engineering experience with SQL and data integration.
• Experience building production pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes.
• Proficiency with Azure data services and Databricks/Spark.
• Ability to design secure, scalable data systems and monitor performance.
• Experience with Scrum or Kanban and Jira/Confluence.

Responsibilities

• Extend and optimise the Azure-based LDP infrastructure and governance.
• Build and maintain production pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes.
• Improve availability, security and data quality while controlling costs.
• Collaborate with analytics engineers and business teams on data products.
• Guide vendor delivery and act as escalation point for DataOps.

Help develop the Azure data platform that supports better decisions at Levande and communities where older Australians can live well every day.

Reporting to the Head of Data Platform, you’ll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, developing the ingestion, storage and transformation layers of the Levande Data Platform (LDP).

What You Will Be Working On

• Extend and optimise the Azure-based LDP, including infrastructure, governance, data models and processing frameworks.
• Build and maintain production pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes, supporting batch and streaming processing.
• Improve platform availability, security and data quality while keeping running costs and capacity controlled.
• Partner with the Lead Analytics Engineer, technology peers and business teams on shared data products for reporting, analytics and AI.
• Guide vendor delivery and act as the technical escalation point for the DataOps service partner.
• Help prioritise improvements and build business teams’ confidence in using data.

Occasional support outside normal working hours may be required to respond to urgent issues.

What Type Of Person Will Be Successful

You bring strong engineering judgement, enjoy solving complex problems and explain technical decisions clearly. You’re comfortable adapting to changing needs and influencing others while staying close to delivery.

You’ll bring:

• Extensive data engineering experience, ideally 10 or more years, with expert SQL and data integration skills.
• Experience developing and maintaining production pipelines, metadata-driven frameworks, enterprise data warehouses and data lakes, including batch and streaming environments.
• The ability to develop, scale and monitor secure, resilient and high-performing data systems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Spark, SQL databases, Azure Data Factory and Azure DevOps, including Git, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience contributing to technical architecture and explaining design decisions to varied audiences, alongside delivery within Scrum or Kanban teams using Jira and Confluence.

Experience with dbt and Python would be an advantage, as would awareness of AI and machine learning technologies and principles.
