Job summary

Whizdom is seeking a Principal Cyber Security Engineer for a permanent role in Canberra, working within a defence-focused environment. You will lead cybersecurity architecture design, oversee implementation and ensure Authority to Operate (ATO) compliance while applying rigorous risk management and ISM controls.

Qualifications

• 6+ years' experience in cybersecurity, ideally within defence, government or critical infrastructure environments.
• CISSP certification (or equivalent) and recognised government cybersecurity credentials.

Responsibilities

• Define and enforce cybersecurity standards aligned with NIST, ISO/IEC 27001 and the Essential Eight.
• Implement and validate technical security controls within classified environments.
• Design and manage secure automation pipelines using Ansible, Terraform and Packer.
• Develop and deploy security tools to address vulnerabilities and strengthen security posture.
