Job summary

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) invites applications for a PO5 Crown Prosecutor to join Southport Chambers in Southport on a permanent full-time basis. You will represent the Crown in superior court trials and complex criminal proceedings, while mentoring legal and support staff and contributing to ODPP initiatives.

Based in Southport, this role offers challenging, high-stakes work and opportunities to influence outcomes across Queensland.

Qualifications

Admission as a Legal Practitioner in an Australian state or territory (include admission date).
Experience appearing as lead counsel in superior court trials or complex criminal proceedings.
Ability to provide authoritative advice on criminal law and evidence.
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Appear as lead counsel in a variety of criminal proceedings, including superior court trials.
Provide authoritative advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions on complex matters of criminal law and evidence.
Exercise independent discretion to initiate, vary, or discontinue serious criminal charges.
Communicate persuasively with judges, defence counsel, solicitors, police, witnesses and victims.
Mentor, supervise, and support professional development of legal officers and staff.
Contribute to ODPP initiatives to improve practices and processes.
Address the needs of victims of crime with empathy and professionalism.
