The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) invites applications for a PO5 Crown Prosecutor to join Southport Chambers in Southport on a permanent full-time basis. You will represent the Crown in superior court trials and complex criminal proceedings, while mentoring legal and support staff and contributing to ODPP initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner in an Australian state or territory (include admission date).
  • Experience appearing as lead counsel in superior court trials or complex criminal proceedings.
  • Ability to provide authoritative advice on criminal law and evidence.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Appear as lead counsel in a variety of criminal proceedings, including superior court trials.
  • Provide authoritative advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions on complex matters of criminal law and evidence.
  • Exercise independent discretion to initiate, vary, or discontinue serious criminal charges.
  • Communicate persuasively with judges, defence counsel, solicitors, police, witnesses and victims.
  • Mentor, supervise, and support professional development of legal officers and staff.
  • Contribute to ODPP initiatives to improve practices and processes.
  • Address the needs of victims of crime with empathy and professionalism.
