Job summary

Whitehaven Coal seeks an experienced Civil Projects Lead to join the Blackwater operation. This pivotal role manages the planning and delivery of civil infrastructure and capital projects supporting operations, leading a dynamic team of Project Managers and professionals.

The role reports to the Superintendent Projects and collaborates with operational leaders, engineers, contractors and senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes while emphasizing safety, cost control and schedule

Qualifications

• Extensive mining industry experience leading and delivering civil projects.
• Strong ability to manage multi-disciplinary project teams and contractor workforces.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Solid understanding of project governance, risk management and controls.
• Proven capability in budgeting, scheduling and cost control for complex civil works.

Whitehaven seeks an experienced and results-driven Civil Projects Lead to join our Blackwater operation.
This pivotal leadership role is responsible for managing the planning and delivery of a portfolio of civil infrastructure and capital projects that support the operations success.

Leading a dynamic team of Project Managers and project professionals, the Civil Projects Lead will provide strategic direction, technical oversight and project governance to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in alignment with business objectives.

About the Role

Reporting to Superintendent Projects the Civil Projects Lead is responsible for managing the civil project portfolio across site, providing leadership from project conception through to execution and handover.
The role will work closely with operational leaders, engineering teams, contractors and senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality project outcomes while maintaining a focus on safety, cost control and schedule performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Project Managers and project personnel.
• Manage the delivery of civil infrastructure, earthworks, roadworks, water management and other site development projects.
• Provide strategic oversight of project planning, budgeting, scheduling and execution.
• Ensure robust project governance, risk management and reporting processes are maintained.
• Drive contractor performance and stakeholder engagement.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and project delivery optimisation.

About You

• Extensive mining industry experience leading and delivering civil projects
• Experience managing project teams and contractor workforces.
• Strong commercial acumen, including contract administration and budget management.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.
• A track record of successfully delivering complex projects safely, on time and within budget.
• Strong understanding of project governance, risk management and project controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering discipline is required.
• Project Management qualifications or professional certifications will be highly regarded.
