Job summary

HorizonOne Recruitment is assisting a well-established Commonwealth agency in Canberra to recruit a Project Manager to lead the Building Projects team through planning, procurement and delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects.

You will manage projects through the full lifecycle, supervise daily activities, develop plans, oversee budgets, contract admin, and coordinate with stakeholders across government and exhibition delivery teams, while fostering continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience managing building, construction, infrastructure or facilities projects in a complex operational environment.
• Strong project management skills, including procurement and contract management, budget oversight, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
• The ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement, and deliver high-quality outcomes under limited direction.
• The ability to build productive relationships and communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders, including where interests are sensitive or competing.
• A commitment to continuous improvement, safety and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Building Projects team day to day, setting priorities and maintaining quality of outputs.
• Develop and manage project plans, oversee implementation, monitor budgets, and coordinate risk assessment and management.
• Administer contracts and service agreements, lead tender and selection processes, and manage contractor performance.
• Exercise judgement on complex tasks, applying regulations and agency procedures.
• Build team capability through coaching, feedback, training and professional development.
• Undertake independent research, draft reports and briefs, and provide specialist technical advice across project activities.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and exhibition delivery teams.
• Contribute to short-term and longer-term strategic planning and identify opportunities for business improvement.
