Job summary

Vfxwire in Australia is seeking an experienced Layout Artist to join our team for an immediate start in either our Adelaide or Brisbane studios.

As a Layout Artist you will create layouts, camera rigs and tracks, dress complex sets, and collaborate with senior artists to ensure seamless integration into the VFX pipeline. The role requires strong Maya and Nuke skills, and familiarity with stereo workflows.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of Maya and Nuke required.
• Experience with lidar/Photoscan data acquisition is a plus.
• Working knowledge of camera tracking tools such as 3D-Equalizer, Syntheyes, PFTrack.
• Understanding lens calibration, camera orientation, projection and distortion.
• Strong sense of space, proportion and depth.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver layouts, camera rigs, tracks, matchmoves and basic composites.
• Set up, maintain, dress and deliver complex sets and environments.
• Design shots based on previsualisation, storyboards or briefs.
• Create layouts for mono and stereo live action plates in pipeline.
• Diagnose and resolve layout, camera, rendering roadblocks.
• Collaborate with senior artists to meet goals.
• Ensure layout orientation and continuity match scene requirements.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Layout Artist to join our team for an immediate start in either our Adelaide or Brisbane studios.

Due to the immediate start date of this position and the short-term nature of the role, only applicants who are currently within Australia will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and deliver layouts, including but not limited to camera rigs, camera tracks, matchmoves and basic scene composites that meet the creative briefs for your team.
• Set up, maintain, dress and deliver complex sets and environments.
• Design shots and sequences based on previsualisation, storyboards or verbal briefs.
• Create layouts and camera solutions for mono and stereo live action plates that integrate efficiently into the layout and tracking pipeline.
• Diagnose and resolve your own technical roadblocks that hinder layouts, camera solutions and renders.
• Collaborate with senior artists to ensure the creative and technical goals of projects are met.
• Ensure shot layout, orientation and continuity line up with scene requirements.

Qualifications

• Excellent knowledge of Maya and Nuke.
• Understanding of acquisition data technology such as Lidar and Photoscan.
• Working knowledge of industry standard camera tracking applications such as 3D-Equalizer, Syntheyes and PFTrack.
• Understanding of lens calibration, camera orientation and projection, focal length and distortion.
• Real world understanding of proportion, depth, scale and physical space.
• Working understanding of techniques and technologies relating to modelling, rigging and compositing.
• Working knowledge of the VFX pipeline and entire post-production process, including interdepartmental dependencies and hand over processes.
