Job summary

Rising Sun Pictures in Australia is seeking a Layout Artist to create and deliver camera rigs, tracks and matchmoves for VFX sequences. You will set up complex sets, design shots from briefs, and ensure continuity across mono and stereo plates within our layout pipeline.

Ideal candidates have strong Maya and Nuke skills, experience with lidar/Photoscan, and familiarity with 3D tracking tools. This is a short-term 3-month contract with remote work considered within Australia.

Qualifications

• Maya and Nuke expertise required for layouts and composites.
• Familiarity with lidar and photogrammetry technologies.
• Experience with camera tracking tools and workflow integration.
• Understanding lens calibration, projection and distortion.
• Strong sense of proportion, depth and physical space in layouts.
• Knowledge of modelling, rigging and compositing techniques.
• Understanding of the VFX pipeline and post-production handovers.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver layouts, including camera rigs, tracks, matchmoves and basic composites meeting briefs.
• Set up, maintain, dress and deliver complex sets and environments.
• Design shots based on previsualisation, storyboards or briefs.
• Create layouts and camera solutions for mono and stereo plates within the pipeline.
• Diagnose and resolve roadblocks affecting layouts, camera solutions and renders.
• Collaborate with senior artists to meet creative and technical goals.
• Ensure layout orientation and continuity align with scene requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and deliver layouts, including but not limited to camera rigs, camera tracks, matchmoves and basic scene composites that meet the creative briefs for your team.
• Set up, maintain, dress and deliver complex sets and environments.
• Design shots and sequences based on previsualisation, storyboards or verbal briefs.
• Create layouts and camera solutions for mono and stereo live action plates that integrate efficiently into the layout and tracking pipeline.
• Diagnose and resolve your own technical roadblocks that hinder layouts, camera solutions and renders.
• Collaborate with senior artists to ensure the creative and technical goals of projects are met.
• Ensure shot layout, orientation and continuity line up with scene requirements.

Qualifications

• Excellent knowledge of Maya and Nuke.
• Understanding of acquisition data technology such as Lidar and Photoscan.
• Working knowledge of industry standard camera tracking applications such as 3D-Equalizer, Syntheyes and PFTrack.
• Understanding of lens calibration, camera orientation and projection, focal length and distortion.
• Real world understanding of proportion, depth, scale and physical space.
• Working understanding of techniques and technologies relating to modelling, rigging and compositing.
• Working knowledge of the VFX pipeline and entire post-production process, including interdepartmental dependencies and hand over processes.
