Full Job Description

We represent a prestigious Australian corporate law firm.

The Intellectual Property team is now in need of an intermediate-level lawyer to join their Sydney office.

The Team

The Intellectual Property group advise on the full spectrum of IP law—including copyright, patents, designs, trade marks, brand protection, false advertising, data protection, commercial licensing, cyber security, and anti-counterfeiting.

They are a pre‑eminent practice in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region.

The Role

As a lawyer in the IP team, you’ll work with a diverse mix of Australian and international clients across sectors such as media, FMCG, tech, healthcare, fashion, mining, and financial services. The role offers exposure to complex patent disputes, cutting‑edge technologies (including those in mining innovation, therapeutic goods, and renewable energy), and a blend of litigation and advisory work. You’ll collaborate closely with partners and the firm’s ESG group, gaining hands‑on experience in a supportive, high‑performing team.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need a strong interest in high‑profile, market‑leading and technically challenging matters – principally in relation to patents. You'll be ambitious, capable, and eager to be recognised for your impact.

In addition, you will have the following:

• 4+ years’ post‑admission experience in a litigation or IP‑focused role.
• Exposure to or interest in patent litigation, ideally in science, engineering, or technical sectors.
• A technical background (e.g. science or engineering degree) is highly desirable.
• Exceptional analytical, drafting and communication skills.
• The confidence to work independently and the judgement to seek guidance when needed.
• A team player with a proactive mindset and a commercial approach.
