Job summary

PLAYFAIR in Sydney seeks a junior migration law assistant to support CEO and senior management across corporate, private client, and humanitarian migration matters. You will help with matter management, application preparation, legal drafting, research, and client correspondence under supervision.

You will assist with visa applications lodgement, prepare submissions, maintain client records in LEAP or Migration Manager, and perform general clerical tasks.

Qualifications

  • Experience in general law and migration law preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and professional phone manner.
  • Foundation in written and spoken English; familiar with MS Word/Excel/Outlook.

  • Assist with preparation, review, and lodgement of visa applications (protection, family, employer-sponsored, skilled, etc.).
  • Prepare forms, submissions, advice summaries, file notes, and other admin documents under supervision.
  • Correspond with clients and external bodies in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist with client intake, consultation scheduling, and post-consultation follow-up.

Job description

The employee is expected to fulfil the duties assigned by the CEO and senior management. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the Head of Corporate & Private Clients, solicitors, and registered migration agents with matter management, application preparation, legal drafting, research, and client correspondence across corporate, private client, and humanitarian migration matters.
  • Assist with the preparation, review, and lodgement of visa applications, including protection, family, employer-sponsored, skilled, and other migration matters as required.
  • Prepare forms, submissions, advice summaries, file notes, requests for information, and other legal and administrative documents under supervision.
  • Correspond with clients, applicants, the Department of Home Affairs, tribunals and external organisations in a professional and timely manner, as appropriate and under supervision.
  • Assist with client intake, telephone enquiries, consultation scheduling, and post-consultation follow-up activities.
  • Assist with client intake, incoming telephone enquiries, initial consultation scheduling and follow-up tasks after consultations.
  • Maintain accurate client records, matter information, lodgement details and key dates in LEAP, Migration Manager or equivalent systems in accordance with PLAYFAIR protocols.
  • Undertake legal and policy research, including monitoring relevant migration law, procedural and Departmental updates when required.
  • Work within established procedures and firm protocols, exercising discretion and maintaining strict confidentiality in relation to all client and company information.
  • Undertake general clerical and administrative duties, including electronic filing, document management, data entry and other team support tasks as required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in general law and migration law preferred. Have an interest in migration law (corporate and humanitarian) and general law and a willingness to learn.
  • The ideal applicant has exceptional attention to detail, a polite and professional telephone manner, and strong organisational skills.
  • Language skills and knowledge of Leap legal, LMM or equivalent would be favourably looked on.
  • This is a junior role, and role specific training will be provided in-house. Candidates are expected, as a foundation, to have a strong command of written and spoken English, an excellent telephone manner, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
