Job summary

Brisbane Grammar School is seeking a reliable Laundry Assistant to support the Boarding House Laundry, ensuring clothing, uniforms and linen are processed hygienically and returned in excellent condition. The role requires discretion, a strong work ethic and a commitment to high care standards for student belongings.

Key duties include sorting, washing, ironing and labels, operating laundry equipment, and assisting with stock control and daily boarding demands in a busy school environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a laundry/boarding school or hospitality setting.
• Desirable ironing and fabric care skills.
• Strong attention to detail with student items.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, physically active role.
• Good organisational and time management abilities.
• Understand safe work practices and manual handling.
• Able to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Sort, wash, dry, fold and distribute boarders’ clothing and linen.
• Identify and label individual student items accurately.
• Operate laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
• Iron uniforms to a high presentation standard.
• Perform sewing for repairs and item labelling.
• Wash and iron tablecloths, linens and event items.
• Ensure uniforms are cleaned for daily school use.
• Inspect for damage or stains and report as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laundry area.
• Follow hygiene, infection control and WHS procedures.
• Manage daily laundry volumes and supply stock control.
• Collaborate with boarding staff for timely service.

About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Laundry Assistant to support the daily operations of our Boarding House Laundry. This role is essential in ensuring that boarders’ clothing, uniforms, and linen are processed efficiently, hygienically, and returned in excellent condition.
Working within a school environment, this role requires attention to detail, discretion, and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of care for students’ personal items, as well as supporting school functions where required.

Key Responsibilities

• Sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute boarders’ clothing and linen
• Accurately identify and manage individual student items and labelling
• Operate laundry equipment safely and efficiently (washers, dryers, ironing equipment)
• Iron uniforms and garments to a high presentation standard
• Sewing - clothing repairs, attaching labels
• Wash and iron tablecloths, linens, and other items following school and boarding events
• Ensure uniforms are cleaned and prepared to a high standard for daily school use
• Inspect items for damage, stains, or wear and report as required
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laundry facility
• Follow strict hygiene, infection control, and WHS procedures
• Manage laundry volumes to meet daily boarding house demands
• Assist with stock control of laundry supplies (detergents, etc.)
• Work closely with boarding staff to ensure timely service delivery

Other Duties

• Traffic control during school drop-off and pick-up time

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a laundry, boarding school, hospitality, or similar environment
• Experience or confidence with ironing and fabric care is highly desirable
• Strong attention to detail, particularly in handling individual student items
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically active role
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Understanding of safe work practices and manual handling
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
