Job description

Landscape Designer / Landscape Architect

Great gardens start with good people. Come and help us create what’s next.

There’s a lot happening at The Great Outdawes Landscaping. Our projects are becoming bigger and more ambitious, our design department is growing, and the quality of our work is opening doors to some exciting residential landscapes across Adelaide and beyond.

We’re looking for a talented landscape designer or landscape architect to be part of that next chapter.

Joining our in-house design team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape beautiful residential spaces, develop your technical skills and work closely with the people who bring your designs to life. You’ll also join a team of talented, down-to‑earth people who take pride in their work, support each other and enjoy spending time together.

Why The Great Outdawes?

We’re a residential landscape design and construction business with a reputation built on quality—from the first consultation and considered design advice through to the details of the finished landscape.

That approach is bringing us increasingly varied and complex projects, and we’re investing in our design capability to match.

For you, that means the opportunity to contribute to a growing department, take ownership of your work and learn from projects that will stretch your thinking. Working alongside our estimating and construction teams, you’ll see how design decisions translate on site and develop a practical understanding of what makes a great landscape succeed.

And the people matter just as much as the projects. We have a welcoming team, a great social calendar and regular events and activities that bring everyone together beyond the working day.

Your Role

Working under the guidance of our Senior Landscape Designer & Estimator, you’ll take ownership of smaller residential design projects and contribute to the design and documentation of larger, more complex landscapes.

Your work will combine creative design, 3D presentation, detailed drafting and project coordination. You’ll enjoy developing an idea, resolving the details and producing clear, accurate drawings that help our clients and construction team understand exactly what’s proposed.

You’ll also have a hand in improving how our design department works—from refining our drawing templates to creating polished presentation and marketing materials.

What You’ll Be Doing

Developing residential landscape designs in response to client briefs, site conditions and budgets.

Preparing concept plans, planting plans and detailed drawing packages in Vectorworks.

Producing 3D models, visualisations, moodboards and client presentations.

Developing sections, elevations, levels and construction details with senior guidance.

Completing drawing amendments and incorporating client feedback, design mark‑ups and project requirements.

Assisting with site visits, measurements, site analysis and client communication.

Researching plants, materials and products, and preparing schedules and specifications.

Supporting approval documentation, estimating and construction handovers.

Keeping project files, drawings and revisions accurate and organised.

Alongside project work, you’ll help develop our templates, standard details and resource libraries; compile portfolios, case studies and marketing documents; and assist with relevant project administration and business improvements. The balance of these responsibilities will vary with project workloads, with quieter design periods providing an opportunity to improve our systems and presentation materials.

This role suits someone who enjoys both the creative and methodical sides of design, and who gets satisfaction from making the whole process work better.

What You’ll Bring

You’ve gained some relevant industry experience and are ready for a role where you can contribute your ideas, build confidence and take on responsibility with experienced support.

Ideally 2–5 years’ experience in landscape design, landscape architecture or a closely related role.

A relevant qualification or equivalent demonstrated industry experience.

Strong Vectorworks skills and the ability to produce accurate, well‑presented drawings.

3D modelling and visualisation skills, supported by examples of your work.

A good eye for spatial design, materials, planting and presentation.

An understanding of residential landscape construction and a willingness to keep learning.

Care and attention when completing detailed drawings, amendments and documentation.

The ability to organise your workload, communicate clearly and work through feedback.

A proactive, considerate approach and a willingness to contribute to the wider team.

What’s in it for you?

A place in a growing residential design and construction business taking on increasingly ambitious projects.

Direct mentoring and design guidance from our Senior Landscape Designer & Estimator.

Responsibility for your own smaller projects, with support and review along the way.

Opportunities to contribute to larger, more technically challenging landscapes.

Practical learning through close collaboration with estimating and construction teams.

The satisfaction of seeing your designs built.

The chance to influence our design resources, presentation standards and ways of working.

A team of good people, regular social events and a workplace where your contribution matters.

Remuneration reflecting your experience and capabilities.

Include examples of your design work, technical drawings and 3D visualisations, noting the software used and your contribution to any team projects.

Tell us what you enjoy about landscape design and what you’re looking for in your next role.

Your application will include the following questions:

  • Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?
  • How many years' experience do you have as a Landscape Architect?
  • How much notice are you required to give your current employer?
