Job summary

Merri-bek City Council is seeking a Landscape Architect to join our Open Space Design & Development team to plan, design and deliver a broad range of open space projects. This role sits within a dynamic, collaborative environment committed to great places and sustainable communities.

You will apply best-practice project management, coordinate community consultation and advise on open space design choices while delivering within budget and on time.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Management, Integrated Water Management or related discipline.
• Experience delivering open space projects, preferably in local government.
• Knowledge of accessibility, sustainability, native plants and playspace design.
• Strong project management and budget-control capabilities.
• Ability to engage with stakeholders and report progress.
• Understanding policies and planning overlays affecting projects.

Responsibilities

• Deliver open space capital works and conservation projects.
• Apply best-practice project management for quality and compliance.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement and community consultation.
• Support Capital Works Program including construction supervision.
• Provide expert advice on open space design and park upgrades.

About the role

Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Landscape Architect to join our dynamic team to plan, design and deliver a broad range of open space projects. This role sits within the Council’s Open Space Design and Development team which focuses on best practice open space design in consultation with the Merri-bek community.

• Delivery of open space capital works and conservation projects as directed by the Unit Manager Open SpaceDesign & Development.
  


• Applying best-practice project management principles to ensure high-quality outcomes, value for money andcompliance with environmental requirements in high conservation areas.
  


• Coordinating stakeholder engagement, community consultation, communication and reporting throughout allstages of project delivery
  


• Assist with the development and implementation of Council’s Capital Works Program including constructionsupervision of works with our in-house construction team and external contractors
  


• Provide expert advice to the organisation on open space design, construction queries and park upgrades
  


• Ensure compliance with recordkeeping, ethics, and health and safety standards

Skills and experience required to perform the role

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Management, Integrated WaterManagement or a related discipline
  


• Experience in all aspects of open space project delivery is essential, preferably in a local government setting
  


• Strong understanding of a range of landscape technologies and how to incorporate into a design (e.g. Accessibilityin public space, environmental sustainability, native plants, playspace design, maintainability of public space, use oflandscape materials etc)
  


• Good project management skills including planning a design and its construction as a project, tracking its progressand problem solving


• Ability to design and construct to a fixed budget and to time
  


• Ability to work independently with minimal direction as well as working with others
  


• Ability to liaise clearly and concisely with a range of stakeholders both external and internal including projectreporting
  


• Understanding of associated policies/strategies and planning overlays and how they might impact a project
