Job summary

Bayside Health is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the flowcytometry section of the haematology department at Alfred Hospital. The role focuses on processing specimens and producing accurate, timely reports under supervision.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, and stock control, contributing to high-quality pathology services across multiple sites in Melbourne.

Qualifications

• Sound knowledge of flowcytometry and its practical applications.
• Ability to set up and perform flowcytometry on blood, tissue, bone marrow and fluids independently.

The Department

Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Service has 5 units (Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Human Molecular Pathology), each headed by a Unit Head. APS has the core laboratory at The Alfred as well as a small local laboratory at Sandringham hospital.

Position Summary

Laboratory Technician to work in our flowcytometry section of the haematology department. They will be responsible for the processing of specimens according to established laboratory procedures under supervision. Their goal is to work as part of a team to achieve high quality work and produce accurate and timely reports.

In addition, technicains may be responsible for other duties as instructed and for day to day equipment maintenance, preparation of reagents, and stocktaking if required.

Experience and Qualifications Required

• Formal Education relevant to the position
• Sound knowledge of flowcytometry and its practical applications
• Ability to setup and perform flowcytometry on blood, tissue, bone marrow and fluids independentlyAbility to work within a team and demonstrate effective communication skills
• Proven ability to perform flowcytometry setup and processing
• Sound knowledge of clinical haematology and its practical applications in flowcytometry
• Sound knowledge of recent advances in flowcytometry
• Sound knowledge of laboratory haematology and its inter-relationship with flowcytometry
