Environmental Group Australia (EGA) seeks a Laboratory Technician to join our new environmental laboratory in Sydney. You will receive hands-on training in asbestos fibre counting (PCM) and air monitoring, preparing samples, recording results, and reporting findings under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications

Laboratory Technician - Environmental Services

EGA is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician in Asbestos Fibre Counting to join our newly established laboratory team in Sydney.

This is an excellent opportunity for a science graduate or early-career laboratory professional to develop specialised technical skills in asbestos fibre counting and air monitoring. You will work closely with and receive hands-on training from our highly experienced Laboratory Manager within a NATA-accredited laboratory.

EGA is a leading environmental consultancy specialising in high-end strategic approaches to Contaminated Land Management. Our expertise includes the assessment, management, remediation and validation of contaminated land across Australia.

Our NATA-accredited laboratory provides accurate and reliable analytical services, including the analysis of airborne fibre monitoring samples using phase contrast microscopy (PCM), for Environmental Consultants and Occupational Hygienists.

About the Role

As our Laboratory Technician, you will be a foundational member of our new laboratory team, working directly with the Laboratory Manager. The position involves working in a fast-paced environmental.

You will be responsible for receiving and preparing airborne fibre monitoring samples, undertaking respirable fibre counting using PCM and accurately recording and reporting analytical results.

This is a full-time, permanent position with expectation for growth. Structured training will be provided, with your competency assessed before you undertake analytical work independently.

Responsibilities

Sample receival, preparation and analysis in accordance with approved laboratory methods.

Technical report writing.

Conduct equipment maintenance and calibration.

Complete required quality-control checks and maintain the integrity of the laboratory.

Complete all documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Follow approved laboratory methods, safety requirements and quality procedures.

Comply with all relevant standards in EGA’s quality-management system, Company policies, procedures and work instruction.

Be flexible to work autonomously and part of a small team.

Participate in all laboratory activities including safety meetings, audits and professional development training.

Contribute positively to the continued development and growth of our laboratory.

Collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholder.

Support continuous improvement initiatives within the organisation.

Who You Are

Experience working in a NATA accredited laboratory preferred.

A degree in Science or Certificate IV in Laboratory techniques.

Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy.

Process-driven and able to follow technical methods and documented procedures consistently.

Comfortable performing precise and repetitive work requiring sustained concentration.

Strong organisational and time-management skills.

Proficient in computer applications with strong attention to details for accurate data entry.

Reliable, responsible and safety conscious.

Comfortable working with asbestos-related samples in a controlled laboratory environment.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

May be required to work afternoon/evening shifts.
