Job summary

Carey Baptist Grammar School is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support science laboratories across Middle and Senior School. You will prepare materials, maintain equipment, and assist with practical activities to foster safe, engaging learning experiences.

You will report to the Laboratory Supervisor and collaborate with science teachers to ensure well-equipped classrooms and smooth lesson delivery. Term 1, 2027 start. A valid Working With Children clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Requires an appropriate science or technical qualification.
• Experience as a Laboratory Technician or in a similar scientific support role.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
• Experience within an educational environment will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, transport, and set up laboratory equipment and materials for practical classes and demonstrations.
• Support teachers and students during practical activities and experiments.
• Assist with laboratory demonstrations and provide guidance on the use and care of equipment.
• Prepare cultures, agar plates, biological specimens, solutions, stains, and media.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, glassware, safety equipment, and preparation areas.
• Manage laboratory inventories and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Support the implementation of data-logging and laboratory technologies.
• Coordinate the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with safety regulations.
• Assist with risk assessments, safety documentation, and compliance requirements.
• Support Science Week activities, open days, displays, excursions, and curriculum development initiatives.
• Coordinate minor equipment repairs and maintenance requirements.

The role:
