Job summary

Carey Baptist Grammar School is seeking an experienced Career Practitioner to guide Senior School students, families and the wider community. The role covers career counselling, subject and pathway planning, and tertiary education advice with a focus on VTAC/UCAT and work placements.

The position is permanent, part-time (26.25 hours per week), commencing in January 2027, reporting to the Head of Senior School.

Qualifications

  • A minimum entry-level qualification recognised under the CICA Professional Standards.
  • Knowledge of the CEAV Code of Ethics and professional career development practices.
  • Strong knowledge of VCE, VCE-VET, and IB pathway options.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with students, parents, staff and external organisations.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with young people and supporting diverse learning and career development needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual career and course counselling to students and parents.
  • Deliver career development programs for students in Years 10 to 12.
  • Support students in subject selection and post-school pathway planning.
  • Advise on tertiary education options, including university, TAFE, scholarships, accommodation, fee structures, and admission requirements such as VTAC and UCAT.
  • Conduct career information sessions and parent education events.
  • Assist students with resume writing, cover letters and interview preparation.
  • Support and coordinate work placements where appropriate.
  • Participate in Change of Preference counselling.
  • Maintain student records and career planning documentation.
  • Support careers events, information nights and destination survey initiatives.
  • Manage and expand the Year 10 Work Experience Program, including employer engagement, student applications, communications and administration.

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Career Practitioner to provide comprehensive career development services to Senior School students, families, and the wider Senior School community. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by guiding students through subject selection, tertiary education planning, employment pathways, and post-school opportunities.

The role:

Reporting to the Head of Senior School the Career Practitioner plays a pivotal role in preparing students for life beyond school through personalised career counselling, career education programs, and pathway planning.

What do I need to succeed?

A valid Employee Working with Children Check or Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Registration is a requirement of this position.
