Job summary

Brisbane City Council's Brisbane Infrastructure unit is seeking a permanent full-time Laboratory Technician based at the Regional Operations Centre Eagle Farm. You will perform routine and complex soils, asphalt and concrete testing and provide timely data to engineers for pavement rehabilitation projects.

To be successful you will have tertiary qualifications or relevant civil construction or engineering experience, strong written and spoken communication, and knowledge of laboratory reporting

Qualifications

• Experience in routine and complex testing in soils, asphalt and concrete per QA and NATA.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with customers.
• Ability to liaise and negotiate with customers and prepare timely reports.
• Experience in providing training to staff in relevant areas.
• Knowledge of laboratory reporting software and spreadsheeting packages.

Brisbane Infrastructure (BI) brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities.

Our Branch

Planning And Design delivers Council's projects and programs through effective project ownership, management, planning and design.

CPO incorporates both design and project management services. We create and manage infrastructure projects, community assets and environmental development for Brisbane as well as delivering innovative solutions for natural and built environments.

The Role

The Laboratory Services Team provides specialized materials testing in areas including pavement investigation (field and laboratory), geotechnical testing of rock and soil, automated traffic counting, and slip/skid resistance. The Laboratory also provides data for the engineers in Pavement Technology, and this is used in design as part of Brisbane City Council's Pavement Rehabilitation schedule.

We currently have opportunity for one permanent full-time Laboratory Technician to join our City Project Office team.

We are looking for a professional to contribute to the unit's goals by providing timely and accurate information, reports, and services to customers.

To be successful you will have:

• ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence
• experience in routine and complex testing in soils, asphalt and concrete in accordance with Quality Management and NATA requirements
• strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise and negotiate with customers
• proven ability to prioritise workloads, and to prepare reports in a timely and accurate fashion
• demonstrated experience in providing training to staff in relevant areas of skill
• knowledge and experience in the use of laboratory reporting software and spread sheeting packages.

Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in civil construction or engineering or a relevant field and possession of a current Medium Rigid (MR) driver's license are desirable, not mandatory requirements.
