Eurofins Environment Testing Australia is seeking a Laboratory Assistant/Technician – Sample Preparation for an overnight role based in Murarrie, Brisbane, QLD.

As a Laboratory Technician you will prepare soil and water samples, weigh and subsample, extract analytes and perform QC tests while ensuring traceability and safety. No degree is required beyond Year 12, with potential to learn and grow in a dynamic lab environment.

Qualifications

• Must have Year 12; a degree in a science-related field would be beneficial.
• No minimum experience is required; however, previous lab experience is a benefit.
• General preference for fast-paced environments and strong attention to detail.

Responsabilités

• Receive and sort soil and water samples; assign tests in LIMS and prepare batch sheets in Excel.
• Weigh samples and transfer subsamples to appropriate departments in the lab.
• Extract analytes from water/soil samples as directed by SOPs.
• Ensure traceability of samples prepared or valled; perform quality control tests.
• Prioritise samples per turnaround times; handle urgent samples.
• Follow AQIS quarantine procedures for quarantine samples.
• Discard waste per safety and environmental guidelines.
• Calibrate POVAs and other lab equipment; keep the lab clean and orderly.
• Undertake other duties as directed by management.

Laboratory Assistant/Technician – Sample Preparation – Overnight role

Eurofins Environment Testing Australiais an Environmental testing network of fully accredited laboratories. With a staff of over 300 our laboratories are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and with Client Service Offices located in Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle and Wollongong. We also operate field sampling services out of Melbourne and Sydney. We specialise in all areas of Environmental analysis, including Contaminated Soil, Sludge, Sediments, Leachate, Soil Vapour, Trade Waste Effluents, Sewage Effluents, Stack Emissions, Work Place Air, Ambient Air, Dust, Drinking Water, Surface Water run off, River & Stream Monitoring, Seawater, and Groundwater.

Job Description

• Full time Night shift position based in Murarrie, Brisbane, QLD.
• Shift time: Monday – Friday: 8pm to 4am
• A 30% loading applies to the overnight shift
• An extra 1.5% superannuation paid on top of National standard rate.

Reporting to the Section Supervisor, a laboratory technician will be primarily responsible for sample preparation and involved in some analysis and other lab duties.

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

• Receive and sort soil and water samples, assign tests in accordance with the LIMS database and prepare batch sheets in Microsoft Excel.
• Weigh samples and transfer subsamples to the appropriate departments in the laboratory
• Extract analytes from water/soil samples as directed by the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ensure traceability of samples prepared or vialled.
• Perform quality control tests.
• Prioritise samples accordingly as per turn around times (urgent samples).
• Treat quarantine samples in accordance with quarantine procedures as directed by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) approved representative.
• Discard waste in accordance with safety and environmental considerations.
• Perform calibrations of POVAs such as syringes, steppers and solvent dispensers and other lab equipment.
• Keep the laboratory clean and in order.
• Undertake other duties as required by the business and directed by management.
• Act in accordance with the Eurofins Code of Ethics, and all other relevant policies and procedures, as updated from time to time.

Qualifications

• A person performing the duties listed in this document does not need to have a science degree but must have a good understanding of chemistry and mathematics (Year 12). A degree in a science-related field would be beneficial.
• No minimum experience is required, however, previous lab experience is a benefit.
• General preference and comfort in fast-paced environments.
• Strong attention to detail and focus on quality output.
