Job summary

4Cyte Pathology Pty is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join the Pathology Specimen Reception team in our Brisbane lab. You will be responsible for routine receipting and processing of specimens, data entry and records management, and ensuring timely handling of urgent samples in a fast-paced environment.

The role involves an afternoon-evening shift pattern with potential weekend work. Applicants should have Certificate III in Pathology Assistance and prior experience in a clinical laboratory

About the role

We are currently seeking experienced Laboratory Assistants to join our team based in our modern, state of the art laboratory in Hendra, Brisbane. Your main responsibilities will be routine receipting and processing of specimens, pre- and post-analytical specimen handling, identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens, and filing and storage of specimens. You will participate in a full-time roster, which involves shift work predominately in the afternoons including evening and weekends.

All specimen reception tasks, including:

• Receipting and processing samples
• Pre-analytical duties
• Packing specimens for transportation
• Accurate, timely data entry and records management
• Attending to phone calls as required
• Adhering to relevant policies, procedures and legislation
• Prioritise and organise workflow safely and efficiently, and commitment to quality
• Work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team

Selection Criteria

Required

• Demonstrated customer service experience and skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical staff
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills, combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues
• High attention to detail while working to deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to perform accurate and efficient data entry
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
• Ability to work evenings until 10pm and weekends when required
• Previous experience processing medical laboratory samples
• Experience operating laboratory analysers
