Healius Limited is seeking a Laboratory Assistant for a permanent part-time role in Australia. The position covers varied shifts from 0530 to 2130 across weekdays and weekends, supporting accurate specimen processing and timely dispatch for testing.

Qualifications

• Previous laboratory or healthcare exposure is preferred but not essential.
• Qualification in pathology or a certificate/diploma in laboratory skills/techniques is desirable.
• Experience with data entry, high accuracy, and following structured procedures is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Receive, check and process specimens with a high level of accuracy.
• Register specimens in laboratory systems and complete data entry.
• Prepare and dispatch specimens to core laboratories within required timeframes.
• Handle enquiries via phone and shared mailboxes and escalate when required.
• Coordinate urgent specimen handling and courier collections.
• Maintain laboratory records, storage and filing processes.
• Participate in routine quality activities and follow laboratory procedures.

About The Role

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient processing of pathology specimens within specimen reception, ensuring they are correctly registered, handled and dispatched for testing. This role is critical in maintaining turnaround times and supporting the delivery of reliable diagnostic results.

Schedule: This permanent part time position will be required to cover various shifts from Monday to Sunday, between the hours of 0530-2130 with participation in weekend and public holiday rosters.

Key responsibilities

About You

Our ideal candidate may have previous exposure to a laboratory or healthcare environment, or hold a qualification or certification in pathology or laboratory skills. We also welcome applications from candidates who bring experience from roles requiring a high level of accuracy, strong time management and the ability to follow structured processes and procedures.

Above all, you communicate effectively, work well as part of a team and are comfortable working in busy environments.

Qualifications And Experience

• Previous experience working in a laboratory is desirable but not essential


• A certificate in pathology and/or a certificate or diploma in laboratory skills/techniques (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential


• A background in healthcare, data entry or roles requiring high levels of accuracy and attention to detail is highly regarded

Requirements

Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
