Job summary

Bendigo Kangan Institute is seeking a part-time Koorie Tutor based at Beechworth Correctional Centre. You will support learners with literacy, numeracy and engagement, working alongside teachers to help students participate in class-based learning in a custodial setting.

Applicants should have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and demonstrate cultural sensitivity, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with learners and staff. WWCC and police check are required.

Corrections Education Centre is a key portfolio of Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI), delivering high-quality education programs to people in custody in partnership with Corrections Victoria and private prison operators. Through strong collaboration with multiple custodial sites, we play a vital role in supporting rehabilitation by building skills, confidence and meaningful pathways for reintegration into the community.

Learning delivery is adapted to the custodial context, with paper-based delivery and controlled classroom settings. Our educators work directly with individuals, often navigating diverse learning needs. Success in this environment requires professionals who are confident in demonstrating emotional intelligence and resilience, bring sound judgement and a strong commitment to professional conduct.

About The Role

As a Koorie Tutor, you will provide support to learners across different programs. This role is focused on helping learners engage with education, build confidence and participate meaningfully in class‑based learning. You will work closely with teachers across different courses to support learners with literacy, numeracy and learning needs. While this is not a classroom teaching role, you will play an important part in helping students feel supported, included and encouraged throughout their education journey.

Remuneration

starting at $ 94, 772.16 inclusive of 12% super pro‑rata (dependent on qualifications)

Your Role Will Include
  • Working alongside teachers to support learners in different program areas
  • Supporting learners to build confidence and competence in education
  • Assisting learners who may need additional support with literacy, numeracy or classroom participation
  • Building trust and respectful relationships with learners, teachers and key stakeholders
  • Contributing to a collaborative team focused on positive learner outcomes and safer communities
  • Creating a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that supports diverse learner needs
