Job summary

Crystalbrook Riley in Cairns is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Steward to keep our culinary spaces clean, safe and well organised for every service.

You will work with our chefs and fellow stewards, managing crockery, utensils and equipment while maintaining storage areas and reporting issues promptly. A strong team ethic and willingness to learn are essential in a busy, guest‑facing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen, stewarding or cleaning is advantageous.
• Willing to obtain a Food Safety Certificate.
• Flexible roster including nights and weekends.
• Value collaboration and reliability in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Keep crockery, utensils and equipment moving efficiently through the kitchen.
• Maintain work and storage areas; use cleaning chemicals safely.
• Report equipment faults before service to minimise disruption.
• Work with chefs and fellow stewards to support smooth service.

The Opportunity:

Behind every vibrant dining experience at Crystalbrook Riley is a kitchen operating at its best! As a Kitchen Steward, you will play an essential role in keeping our culinary spaces clean, safe, organised and ready for every service.

Working alongside our chefs and fellow stewards, you will keep crockery, utensils, pots, pans and equipment moving efficiently through the kitchen. You will maintain work and storage areas, use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely, manage waste responsibly and report equipment faults before they affect service.

You are dependable, energetic and take genuine pride in a job well done! You enjoy being part of a team, stay organised when the pace picks up and understand how much the small details matter.

While previous kitchen stewarding or commercial kitchen experience will be highly regarded, we also welcome those with a genuine passion for hospitality, a strong work ethic and an eagerness to learn.

• Experience within a kitchen, stewarding or commercial cleaning environment is advantageous
• Familiarity with commercial dishwashing and cleaning equipment, or a willingness to learn
• An understanding of cleaning chemicals, safe handling practices and food hygiene standards
• The ability to work efficiently and maintain attention to detail during busy periods
• A collaborative approach and willingness to assist wherever needed
• Availability to work a flexible roster, including nights and weekends
• A Food Safety Certificate, or willingness to obtain one
• This is the strongest version so far: engaging without overselling, welcoming to entry‑level applicants and accurately grounded in the JD.
