Job summary

Johnsons MME in Wangaratta is seeking a Trainee/Junior Accountant to start or advance your accounting career within our Business Services team. You will gain hands-on experience across accounting and taxation work while learning from an experienced, supportive team.

We welcome applicants currently studying or recently graduated, offering flexible training, paid study leave, and opportunities to progress within a growing regional firm.

Qualifications

• Currently studying or recently graduated in accounting or finance.
• Demonstrates genuine interest in a career in accounting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for diverse client structures.
• Prepare BAS and IAS statements.
• Work with Senior Accountants to assist in preparing client advice.
• Develop knowledge of taxation, accounting and business advisory services.
• Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and regulatory bodies as needed.
• Build relationships with clients.

WHAT YOUR ROLE WILL INVOLVE

As part of our Business Services team, you will gain hands‑on experience across a broad range of accounting and taxation work, including:

• Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for family groups, including trusts, companies, partnerships and individuals
• Preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
• Working closely with Senior Accountants and Managers to assist in preparing advice for clients
• Developing your knowledge of taxation, accounting and business advisory services
• Liaising with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and other regulatory bodies when required
• Building relationships with clients

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We are looking for someone who:

• Is studying, or intends to study, an accounting or finance degree, or has recently graduated
• Has a genuine interest in developing a career in accounting
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Is organised and has good attention to detail
• Is willing to learn and develop new skills
• Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team

Previous accounting experience is not essential.We are looking for the right person with the attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
