Job summary

Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) in Dubbo/Moree, NSW, is seeking a Junior Solicitor for the Care & Protection and Family Law Practice. The role offers a fixed-term 12-month contract with a salary range of $89,829–$108,457, based on experience.

You will deliver culturally appropriate legal advice and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, manage diverse caseloads, and work with communities to achieve meaningful outcomes.

Qualifications

• Current NSW Practising Certificate, or ability to obtain one immediately.
• Strong knowledge of child protection, care and protection, and family law.
• Ability to advocate effectively in courts, tribunals and dispute resolution processes.
• Commitment to social justice, access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally appropriate legal advice, advocacy and early intervention support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
• Manage a diverse caseload across child protection and family law, including case preparation and court representation.
• Deliver community-based legal services, education and outreach while building relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Manage files, court commitments, reporting and day-to-day legal practice efficiently and professionally.
• Maintain compliance with legislation, professional obligations and ALS policies while contributing to legal reform.
• Work collaboratively across legal and support teams with cultural respect.
