Job summary

Optiver in Sydney seeks a markets professional to convert large, complex datasets into clear answers within the Compliance team. You will investigate surveillance alerts end-to-end, reconstructing activity from market data to determine what happened and why.

You will analyze vast market and trade data using SQL and Python, build automated detection logic and AI-driven workflows, and help design controls that guard against market abuse while enabling growth.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and investigative mindset with attention to detail.
• 2+ years in trade surveillance, market abuse monitoring, or related roles.
• Strong data skills and experience analyzing large datasets with SQL or Python.
• Experience automating analysis or building data tooling is a strong plus.
• Interest in using technology and data to solve problems in financial markets.

Responsibilities

• Investigate trade surveillance alerts end-to-end by reconstructing order and trade activity from market data.
• Analyse large market and trade datasets using SQL, Python and AI-assisted workflows.
• Build and automate detection logic, tooling and data pipelines, including AI-driven systems.
• Leverage AI workflows to investigate alerts and surface risk more effectively.
