Lockheed Martin Australia is seeking a Junior Design Engineer (Aero-Mechanical / Structures) in Brisbane, QLD. You will work with experienced aerospace professionals on the UH-60M Black Hawk program, contributing to aircraft modifications, structural assessments and investigations to keep the fleet mission ready.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Approximately 2-4 years of engineering experience in aerospace/defence environments.
  • Interest in aircraft structures, mechanical systems and airworthiness.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Support assessment of structural and mechanical repairs and modifications against airworthiness requirements.
  • Develop structural and mechanical modifications, including design substantiation and certification.
  • Assist with technical investigations into aircraft structural and mechanical issues.
  • Perform structural, mechanical and airworthiness engineering activities for the UH-60M Black Hawk fleet.
  • Collaborate with Defence stakeholders and engineering specialists to deliver safe, compliant design outcomes.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and engineering assessments for aircraft modifications.

As a Junior Design Engineer, you'll work alongside experienced aerospace and airworthiness professionals, contributing to aircraft modifications, structural assessments and engineering investigations that help keep the Black Hawk fleet mission ready.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with 2-4 years of experience who are looking to deepen their expertise in aircraft structures, mechanical systems, airworthiness and Defence aviation while being mentored by industry experts.

Key Responsibilities

The Junior Design Engineer Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Support the assessment of structural and mechanical repairs and modifications against local airworthiness requirements and operational needs
  • Develop structural and mechanical modifications, including design substantiation and certification activities
  • Assist with technical investigations into aircraft structural and mechanical issues
  • Perform structural, mechanical and airworthiness engineering activities in support of the UH-60M Black Hawk fleet
  • Collaborate with Defence stakeholders and engineering specialists to deliver safe, compliant and effective design outcomes
  • Contribute to technical documentation, engineering assessments and support system improvements associated with aircraft modifications

What you'll bring

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Approximately 2-4 years of engineering experience within aerospace, aviation, defence or other complex engineering environments
  • An interest in aircraft structures, mechanical systems and airworthiness
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within a collaborative team environment
  • A willingness to learn from experienced engineers and develop specialist Defence aviation expertise
  • NV1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
