Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking a skilled Journalist - Editorial for our publications team in Blackburn, VIC. This permanent part-time role (22.8 hours/week) supports the organisation’s mission by researching and writing content for magazines, reports and online channels in line with our values.

Key responsibilities include gathering news from corps and THQ, preparing story components, obtaining release forms, and attending events for reporting.

Qualifications

  • 3 years' experience as a journalist or similar.
  • Understanding of the print process.
  • Tertiary qualifications in the media/communications.
  • Insight and understanding of The Salvation Army’s procedures and operations is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Gather news from corps, centres, divisions and THQ departments for inclusion in publications, reports, online and social media channels.
  • Prepare all components for stories (eg. research ideas, interviews, fact checking, writing) for the magazines and associated online channels.
  • Secure release forms for all subjects interviewed, photographed, filmed in support of content published.
  • Attend events for reporting and information gathering for stories as required.
  • Proofreading duties as part of the proofreading process – excellent attention to detail.

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Journalist - Editorial to join our publications team and play a crucial role in supporting The Salvation Army’s diverse initiatives nationwide. This is a Permanent Part time role (22.8 Hours/ week), location - Blackburn, VIC.


Purpose of the Role:

To research and write content for TSA magazines, reports and online channels in line with the mission and values of the Salvation Army


Key Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Gather news from corps, centres, divisions and THQ departments for inclusion in publications, reports, online and social media channels.


  • Prepare all components for stories (eg. research ideas, interviews, fact checking, writing) for the magazines and associated online channels.


  • Secure release forms for all subjects interviewed, photographed, filmed in support of content published.


  • Attend events for reporting and information gathering for stories as required.


  • Proofreading duties as part of the proofreading process – excellent attention to detail.



Education and Qualifications Required:


  • 3 years' experience as a journalist or similar


  • Understanding of the print process


  • Tertiary qualifications in the media/communications (Bachelor of Arts or Communications and/or equivalent industry experience)


  • Insight and understanding of The Salvation Army’s procedures and operations is an advantage



Requirements of the role:


  • National Police Check


  • Valid Drivers license


  • Working with childrens check - location specific


  • This position involves occasional weekend work to cover events as required
