Job summary

Fast Automation, a leading Australian automation provider in Sydney, seeks an experienced IT professional to own, scale and secure the company IT environment for ~50 staff at a single site. You will manage end-user support, security, infrastructure, and business systems with external vendor backing.

Responsibilities include deploying servers and network gear, managing identity across systems, and driving security improvements. ISO/IEC and OT experience are beneficial.

Qualifications

• 4 to 6 years’ experience in an IT systems, infrastructure or security role.
• Single point of IT responsibility with judicious escalation to vendors or MSPs.
• Hands-on administration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune for ~50 users.
• Configuring and maintaining firewalls, switches, VPNs and security controls.
• Experience running backup and disaster recovery with restore testing.
• Experience managing vendors and MSPs, including scoping work and accountability.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex, escalated issues and document solutions clearly.
• Able to manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with staff, management and vendors.

Job description

Fast Automation is a leading Australian provider of cutting-edge automation and robotics solutions. We empower businesses to streamline operations, boost productivity, and embrace the future of intelligent systems.

You will be the sole IT person for around 50 staff at a single site, working independently with the backing of external vendors and an MSP where needed. You will report to the General Manager and have the authority to scope, propose and deliver improvements across the IT environment. This is a hands-on role covering everything from end-user support to security, infrastructure and business systems.

Key responsibilities

Own the day-to-day operation of the IT environment, including end-user support, escalations and vendor management.

Deploy, configure and maintain servers, network infrastructure and end-user devices.

Manage identity and access across business systems, including onboarding, offboarding and access reviews.

Support and improve business platforms (ERP, CRM, SAP), including integrations and streamlining data processes, working alongside vendors.

Lead security hardening across the environment, including patch management, firewall configuration and monitoring.

Manage endpoint and email security, including MFA, Intune policy, antivirus and phishing prevention.

Run regular vulnerability assessments and own remediation through to closure.

Maintain IT documentation, asset inventory and configuration records.

Own backup and disaster recovery, including regular restore testing.

Scope and deliver improvements to performance, reliability and security, and contribute to the IT roadmap.

Ensure IT operations meet current cybersecurity and compliance requirements.

Skills and experience

4 to 6 years’ experience in an IT systems, infrastructure or security role, including at least 2 years as the primary or senior technical owner of an environment, or working with minimal supervision.

Comfortable being the single point of IT responsibility, with the judgement to know when to elevate to a vendor or MSP.

Hands-on administration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune in a production environment of around 50 users, including onboarding, offboarding and access reviews.

Practical experience configuring and maintaining firewalls, switching and VPNs, and applying security controls such as patching, MFA, hardening and vulnerability remediation.

Demonstrated experience running backup and disaster recovery, including restore testing.

Experience managing vendors and MSPs, including scoping work and holding them to account.

Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex, escalated issues independently and to document solutions clearly.

Able to manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with staff, management and vendors.

Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Cyber Security or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Experience supporting ISO/IEC 27001 or IEC 62443 compliance or audit processes.

Exposure to industrial automation or OT environments, including network segmentation between IT and OT.

Linux, WSL and Docker experience.

Scripting or software development experience (e.g. PowerShell, Python).
