Job summary

Edison Smart® in Perth, Australia, is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design and develop firmware for IoT hardware products across the full lifecycle. You will work closely with hardware and production teams to ensure robust and scalable firmware.

This early-career role offers hands-on experience, exposure to end-to-end product development, debugging on hardware, and opportunities to grow into a senior embedded/firmware position while contributing to deployed IoT products at scale.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years experience in embedded firmware development (or strong academic projects).
• Strong experience with C / C++ in embedded environments.
• Exposure to microcontrollers (ARM, STM32 or similar).
• Understanding of communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN).
• Experience debugging on hardware (JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analysers).
• Basic understanding of electronics and schematic reading.
• Exposure to RTOS or real-time systems (nice to have).
• Familiarity with Git or version control.
• Some experience with Python or C# is a bonus.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or similar.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing embedded firmware for IoT hardware products.
• Supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to production.
• Working closely with hardware, testing, and production teams.
• Debugging and optimising firmware performance and reliability.
• Supporting manufacturing and field teams with technical issues.
• Contributing to firmware architecture and system design decisions.
• Writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code.
