Job summary

Hydrogen Group is seeking an Investment Analyst for a Sydney-based day-rate contract. You will operate as an investment generalist, moving between investment analysis, data, reporting and business processes to support the investment function.

You will collaborate with stakeholders across Investments, Data and Technology, applying SQL and data platform experience to deliver practical insights and process improvements. ESG data support and cross-functional involvement are key parts of the role.

Qualifications

• Investment domain knowledge across superannuation, asset management or investment management.

Responsibilities

• Support a broad range of investment and business process initiatives across Investments, Data and Technology.

Investment Analyst

Day Rate Contract | Sydney | 6 months

We are partnering with a leading Australian financial services organisation looking for an experienced Investment Analyst to join its Investments function.

This is not a traditional Business Analyst or pure Data Analyst position. The team is looking for an investment generalist who can work across investment analysis, data, reporting and business processes, moving between different areas depending on the needs of the investment team.

Role

Working closely with stakeholders across Investments, Data and Technology, you will support a broad range of investment and business process initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Work across a range of initiatives within the Investments function, providing analytical, data and process support.
• Analyse investment and portfolio data to support investment teams and business decision-making.
• Work with fund structures, investment products, portfolios and investment data across multiple asset classes.
• Use SQL to interrogate, validate and analyse investment data.
• Work with investment and market data platforms including FactSet.
• Support ESG / responsible investment data, reporting and related initiatives.
• Undertake current-state and future-state process mapping across investment processes.
• Identify data issues, process inefficiencies and opportunities to improve controls, reporting and ways of working.
• Gather and translate business requirements while taking a broader approach than a traditional BA.
• Facilitate workshops and work closely with Investment, Data, Technology and Operations stakeholders.
• Support data quality, governance, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skillset

The key to this role is breadth. You may currently be an Investment Analyst, Investment Data Analyst, Investment BA or Business Process Analyst, but you will be comfortable working outside the traditional boundaries of your job title.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Strong investment domain knowledge, ideally from superannuation, asset management or investment management.
• Good understanding of fund structures and investment portfolios.
• Experience with FactSet or similar investment/market data platforms.
• Exposure to ESG / responsible investment data and reporting.
• Hands-on SQL capability and confidence working with investment data.
• Experience across business process analysis, process mapping and process improvement.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn complex investment data into practical insights.
• Ability to operate across Investments, Data and Business Analysis rather than specialising solely in one area.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly with investment professionals.
• A pragmatic, adaptable approach and willingness to work across a variety of initiatives.

The Opportunity

• This role would suit a genuine Investment Generalist – someone who understands investments but also has the data and business process capability to solve a variety of problems.
• You don't need to be the deepest specialist in every area. The key is being able to understand an investment problem, interrogate the underlying data, map the associated processes and work with stakeholders to determine the best way forward.
