Job summary

The Law Society of New South Wales seeks an Investigations Solicitor to join the Legal Regulation team in Sydney. You will conduct investigations into complaints about lawyers and assess suitability for practising certificates.

Qualifications

Admitted to the Roll of Lawyers and eligible for practising certificate.
Minimum 5 years of Post Qualification Experience.
Desirable: investigatory, regulatory or administrative law experience.
Strong knowledge of Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and related regulations.
Solid understanding of solicitor's trust accounting practices.

Responsibilities

Conduct investigations of complaints about lawyers under the Uniform Law.
Examine suitability issues relating to a lawyer's fitness to hold a practising certificate.
Review trust investigation reports and make recommendations to directors and Council.
Manage a mix of complex matters including complaints, suitability issues and trust investigations.
Draft statutory notices, conduct legal research, and prepare memoranda for Council.
Liaise with complainants, solicitors, and relevant stakeholders.
