St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney invites applications for Intern Pharmacist 2027. This max-term full-time position is for one year, based in the Pharmacy department at St Vincent’s Public Hospital, Sydney.

Under supervision of a Pharmacist, you will support inpatient and outpatient services, counsel patients, assist in manufacturing, participate in research, and contribute to a busy, compassionate team. Applicants must have pharmacy degree and provisional registration with AHPRA.

Qualifications

• Must have completed a Pharmacy degree and be eligible for provisional registration with AHPRA.
• Strong pharmacology knowledge with ability to apply it clinically.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to counsel patients and collaborate with staff.
• Understanding of hospital pharmacist role and commitment to development.
• Proactive, adaptable, and able to work independently within a busy team.

About the role

Under the supervision of a Pharmacist:

• Support the delivery of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services, developing your clinical skills in medication management and pharmaceutical care planning

• Develop your skills in patient counselling, medication education and the provision of drug information to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals

• Gain hands-on experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, including the preparation of extemporaneous pharmaceuticals and applying relevant quality and safety controls

• Participate in pharmacy practice research, including undertaking a specific research project

• Work collaboratively within the pharmacy team, participate in weekend rosters and undertake other duties as required by the Director of Pharmacy or Deputy Director of Pharmacy

About you

• Successful completion of a Pharmacy Degree and eligible for provisional registration with AHPRA plus eligibility to enrol in an approved Intern Training Program prior to commencement (You must upload a copy of your academic transcript as part of your application)

• Sound knowledge of pharmacology and the ability to apply this knowledge in practical clinical situations

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively counsel patients and carers and collaborate with healthcare professionals at all levels

• An understanding of the role of a Hospital Pharmacist, including professional, ethical and legal responsibilities, with a commitment to ongoing professional development, continuing education, quality improvement and research

• A proactive and adaptable team player with demonstrated initiative, strong problem-solving, time management and prioritisation skills, and the ability to work independently, meet deadlines and contribute effectively within a busy team environment
