Job summary

Mills Oakley is seeking an Associate to join our Insurance team in Melbourne, focusing on motor vehicle related litigation. You will represent some of Australia’s largest insurers in bringing and defending claims for property damage.

To be successful, you will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in motor vehicle insurance litigation, with Magistrates’ Court appearances and a proven ability to manage deadlines, negotiate effectively, and deliver practical dispute resolution solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in motor vehicle insurance litigation.
• Experience appearing before the Magistrates’ Court and knowledge of credit-hire, repair and liability disputes.

The Role

A rare opportunity has become available for an Associate to join our Insurance team in Melbourne focusing on motor vehicle related litigation. You will represent some of Australia’s largest insurers in bringing and defending claims for property damage.

Responsibilities will include the following:

• Defending and pursuing motor vehicle property damage claims
  
• Recovery actions on behalf of insurers
  
• Liability disputes arising from motor vehicle accidents
  
• Investigating liability, quantum and indemnity issues
  
• Conducting negotiations, mediations and settlement conferences
  
• Appearing before the Magistrates’ Court
  
• Preparing pleadings, evidence and advocacy materials
  

Who We Are Looking For

To be successful, you will have:

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in motor vehicle insurance litigation. General insurance will be considered but motor vehicle and property damage experience will be preferred
  
• Experience in appearing before the Magistrates’ Court and in respect of credit-hire as well as repair and liability disputes
  
• The ability to manage a high file load and proven history of meeting deadlines
  
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  
• A pragmatic and commercially focused approach to dispute resolution
