Job summary

Mills Oakley in Sydney is seeking a Lawyer or Associate with 1-4 years PQE to join our Insurance team and work on Public Liability and Professional Indemnity matters alongside Michael Down and Nikki Cassar.

You will manage smaller matters in Local and District Courts initially, with progression to larger matters in District and Supreme Courts, handling file management, evidence review, client communication, and court appearances.

Qualifications

• 1–4 years PQE with litigation experience
• Professional approach with a client service focus
• Strong academic record from a well‑regarded university

Responsibilities

• File management including meeting deadlines and managing documents
• Reviewing evidence and preparing advices on indemnity, liability and quantum

The Role

A great career opportunity has arisen for a Lawyer or Associate to join our Insurance team in Sydney. In this role you will be working with Michael Down and Nikki Cassar across a range of litigation matters in the area of Public Liability and Professional Indemnity. Our team has been acknowledged for its leading position working with a local government mutual and with a major insurer in Australia.

Initially, you will manage smaller matters with minimal supervision in the Local and District Court working up towards larger matters in the District and Supreme Courts.

Who We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Between 1-4 years' PQE, ideally from a defendant firm. Candidates with a plaintiff background will be considered
• Demonstrated experience in litigation
• A professional approach with a client service focus
• The ability to prioritise tasks and operate in a fast-paced environment
• A strong academic record from a well-respected university
